Understanding Fund Fees in Mezzi
Last updated: June 19, 2026
Overview
Fund fees are one of the easiest costs to overlook in a portfolio, but over time they can have a significant impact on your investment returns. Mezzi helps you understand exactly what you’re paying by tracking fund fees across your portfolio, highlighting high-cost investments, and identifying potential lower-cost alternatives.
🧭 How to View Fund Fees in Mezzi
Check out this Youtube video or follow the steps below to review your fund fees:
Go to the Insights tab.
Scroll down to the Fund Fees section.
You’ll immediately see:
Your annual fund costs
Your weighted average expense ratio
Tap into the section for a detailed breakdown.
For each fund in your portfolio, Mezzi shows:
The fund name
Expense ratio
Amount invested
Estimated annual fees paid
Potential lower-cost alternatives
💡 Why This Matters
Expense ratios are deducted directly from a fund, so many investors never see a bill for them. Even small percentages can add up over time and reduce long-term returns.
Mezzi helps you identify:
Which funds contribute most to your annual costs
Higher-cost holdings that may deserve a second look
Lower-cost alternatives that provide similar exposure
For example:
SPY has an expense ratio of approximately 0.09%
QQQ has an expense ratio of approximately 0.18%
QQQM tracks the same NASDAQ-100 index as QQQ but at a lower cost
SOXL has an expense ratio of approximately 0.75%
HACK has an expense ratio of approximately 0.60%
Understanding where your fees come from can help you make more informed investment decisions.
🤖 Research Alternatives with AI
Once you’ve identified a fund you’d like to evaluate, you can ask Mezzi AI questions such as:
“What’s my tax hit if I swap QQQ for QQQM?”
Mezzi’s Research Assistant will analyze:
Your actual holdings
Account types (taxable vs. tax-advantaged)
Potential tax implications
Estimated fee savings
Alternative investment options
You can also tap the sparkle icon to have Mezzi automatically analyze your holdings and identify opportunities to reduce costs.
Important Notes
Fund fees are calculated based on the expense ratios of the investments you currently hold.
The tax impact of switching funds depends on where the investment is held:
Trades inside tax-advantaged accounts (such as IRAs and Roth IRAs) generally do not trigger capital gains taxes.
Trades in taxable accounts may have tax consequences.
Mezzi provides educational insights to help you evaluate trade-offs, including both fee savings and potential tax impacts.
