How Long Does It Take for My Accounts to Sync?

Last updated: August 20, 2026

Overview

A newly connected account usually shows its balance within about a minute — Mezzi tells you so directly: "We're syncing your account data. This takes about a minute." Holdings, transactions and history take longer, and a complete first sync can run 24 to 48 hours, especially for brokerages and employer retirement plans. After that, connected accounts refresh automatically roughly every 12 hours.

📌 What You Need to Know

The first few minutes

Right after you connect, you'll see "Syncing your account" while Mezzi pulls the first snapshot. Balances and account names typically land within a minute or two. It's normal for holdings to be empty or partial at this stage.

The first 24 to 48 hours

Position-level detail, cost basis and transaction history arrive after the balance does, and the wait varies by institution and provider. Brokerages with deep history and employer plans with proprietary funds are the slowest. Support's standard guidance after a new connection, a repair, or a manual refresh is to allow 24 to 48 hours before treating incomplete data as a problem.

Two things can look wrong during this window and aren't: holdings temporarily grouped as cash, and performance figures that haven't populated yet. If either persists past 48 hours, see Why Do My Holdings Show as Cash Instead of Investments?.

After that: about every 12 hours

Once established, holdings and transactions refresh automatically on roughly a 12-hour cadence, timed from when the connection was first created. That means your refresh times won't line up neatly with the market close, and same-day trades may not appear until the next cycle.

You can trigger an update yourself with Refresh connection, but not more than once an hour — see Why Can't I Refresh My Account More Than Once an Hour?.

When a new connection is genuinely stuck

If a brand-new connection hasn't produced data after about 12 hours, the syncing card on Home escalates to a Get support prompt. That's the signal to stop waiting. At that point it's usually not slowness — the common cause is a duplicate account record created at connect time, which never syncs no matter how long you leave it. Support can spot that in a minute; there's nothing you need to reconnect.

The message "This account never synced - refresh your connection" points the same way. Try one refresh, and if nothing changes, email us.

Important Notes

A repair restores forward syncing, not missing history. After repairing a broken connection, allow the same 24–48 hours for the account to fill back in. If transactions from before the break are still missing after that, tell support the date range.

Manually added accounts don't sync at all. They hold the value you enter until you change it, by design.

Timing differs by institution, not by membership tier. Sync cadence is the same on every plan, including Free.

🗨 Still Need Help?

Email help@mezzi.com or text/call (415) 763-6997 with:

  • the account name in Mezzi and the institution

  • when you connected or last repaired it

  • what's present and what's missing — balance only, holdings but no transactions, and so on

  • a screenshot of the account screen

Common Questions

  • My balance is right but my holdings are empty. Is that broken? Not in the first day or so. Balances arrive first and positions follow. If holdings are still empty after 48 hours, send us the account name.

  • How often does Mezzi update my accounts automatically? Roughly every 12 hours per connection, timed from when that connection was created rather than from market close.

  • Why don't today's trades show up? They land on the next scheduled refresh. If a trade executed after your account's last cycle, expect it within about 12 hours, or sooner if you use Refresh connection.

  • It's been two days and one account still shows nothing. What now? Email help@mezzi.com. An account that has never synced usually has a duplicate record behind it, which is ours to fix — you don't need to reconnect anything.
