Why Can't I Refresh My Account More Than Once an Hour?

Last updated: August 20, 2026

Overview

Mezzi limits manual refreshes to one per connection per hour. If you try again sooner you'll see "Refresh too soon" and "Please wait at least 1 hour before refreshing again." The limit exists because banks and brokerages rate-limit how often anyone can pull their data, and hitting those limits gets connections throttled or temporarily blocked — which causes the exact staleness the extra refresh was meant to solve.

📌 What You Need to Know

What the limit actually is

One manual Refresh connection per connection, per hour. It's per institution connection, not per account, so refreshing a brokerage with four accounts under one login uses the hour for all four. Other institutions are unaffected — you can refresh a different connection immediately.

The counter runs from your last successful refresh, not from the top of the clock hour.

Why refreshing again wouldn't help anyway

A manual refresh asks your institution for its current data. Institutions update what they publish on their own schedule, and for most brokerages that's once at end of day rather than continuously. Refreshing at 2pm and again at 2:05pm asks the same question twice and gets the same answer.

Mezzi also refreshes every connection automatically roughly every 12 hours, so most accounts stay current without you doing anything. See How Long Does It Take for My Accounts to Sync?.

What to do instead

  • If data looks stale, one refresh is worth trying. If it doesn't change anything, more refreshes won't — the issue is the connection or the institution's own data, not the refresh. Work through Account Showing Stale or Incorrect Data.

  • If the account is asking to be repaired, refresh isn't the right tool at all. Repair re-authorizes the connection; refresh only pulls data over an authorization that's already broken. See How to Repair a Broken Account Connection.

  • If today's trades are missing, that's usually timing rather than a problem. Brokerages commonly publish positions after the close, so an intraday refresh won't surface them.

Important Notes

  • A successful refresh confirms itself. You'll see "Connection refreshed". If you saw that and the numbers didn't move, your institution had nothing new to send.

  • The limit is the same on every plan, including Free. It's a technical constraint from the institutions, not a membership feature.

  • Repairing a connection isn't subject to the hourly limit — it's a different action, and you can repair whenever you need to.

Common Questions

  • How long exactly do I have to wait? One hour from your last successful refresh on that connection.

  • Does the limit apply to all my accounts at once? It applies per connection. Accounts sharing one institution login share the hour; separate institutions have separate limits.

  • Can support refresh it for me sooner? Bypassing the limit wouldn't produce different data, so we won't have more to pull than you do. If an account is genuinely stuck, tell us and we'll look at the connection itself rather than refresh it again.

  • Will refreshing more often keep my net worth more accurate? No. The upstream data changes on the institution's schedule — typically daily for holdings. Extra refreshes read the same values.
