Which Accounts and Institutions Does Mezzi Support?
Last updated: August 20, 2026
Overview
Mezzi connects to thousands of institutions across essentially every account type you'd track: taxable brokerage, employer retirement plans like a 401(k), 403(b) or 457, IRAs, HSAs, 529 college savings plans, trust accounts, crypto exchanges and wallets, and bank and cash accounts. Real estate, vehicles and liabilities are added by hand. If an institution can't be connected — a few genuinely can't — you can add the account manually and it still counts toward your net worth.
📌 What You Need to Know
Account types you can connect
Type | Examples |
|---|---|
Brokerage | Individual, joint, and taxable investment accounts |
Employer retirement plans | 401(k), 403(b), 457, and other workplace plans |
IRAs | Traditional, Roth, rollover, SEP, SIMPLE |
Health savings | HSA accounts |
College savings | 529 plans |
Trusts | Revocable and irrevocable trust accounts |
Crypto | Exchange accounts and wallets |
Credit Cards | We show transactions |
Cash | Checking, savings, and money market at banks and credit unions |
Everything above syncs automatically once connected — balances, holdings and transactions.
Assets you add manually
Real estate, vehicles and liabilities aren't connected; you enter them. Mezzi has dedicated flows for each — Add real estate, Add vehicle, Add liability — including whether a property carries a mortgage or a vehicle carries a loan, so the debt is netted against the asset. Liability types cover Mortgage, Home Equity Loan, Auto Loan and Student Loan.
One thing worth knowing up front: manually added assets don't have market data behind them. Mezzi draws a straight line from your purchase price to the current value you set, with no daily change, and the compare and performance views are turned off on their charts. That's expected, not a bug.
How connections work
Mezzi connects through 3 providers — Plaid, Finicity, and SnapTrade — and routes each institution down whichever path works best for it.
Two search tips that resolve most "I can't find my plan" cases:
Search for the plan administrator, not your employer. Your 401(k) is with Fidelity, Empower, Voya or Principal — not with the company you work for.
If one entry fails, try another entry for the same name. Some institutions appear more than once because they're reachable by more than one path, and the alternates often behave differently for retirement accounts.
Account connections are unlimited on every tier, including free.
Institutions that don't connect reliably
Most institutions connect and stay connected. A small number don't, and it's better to know which before you spend an evening on it.
Thrift Savings Plan (TSP) is the clearest case. TSP does not currently support a reliable connection with third-party apps like Mezzi. The symptom is distinctive: you're prompted to repair the connection, you complete the repair, you see a confirmation — and the account still says it needs repairing, and still doesn't update. This is an upstream limitation, our data providers have raised it, and there's no fix available on our side today. For TSP, add the account manually and update it periodically. Repeating the repair won't help.
A handful of other institutions — some HSA providers among them — go through periods where the underlying integration is broken and awaiting a rebuild by the provider. When that happens, support will tell you plainly rather than send you back through the connection flow, and manual entry is the interim answer.
Important Notes
If your institution doesn't appear in search at all, that's still not a dead end — manual accounts are first-class in Mezzi and count toward your net worth, allocation and exposure. See How to Manually Add an Account in Mezzi and How to Edit Holdings for Manually Added Accounts.
Employer retirement plans are the most common source of odd-looking data after connecting. Proprietary plan funds often arrive without a public ticker, which can push holdings into "Other" or into cash and zero out projected dividends. The account total is still right; email help@mezzi.com with the fund names and we'll map them to close market equivalents.
🗨 Still Need Help?
Not sure whether your institution is supported? Email help@mezzi.com or text or call (415) 763-6997 with the institution's exact name and the type of account, and we'll tell you which path to use — or confirm that manual is the right answer. You can also schedule a support call.
Common Questions
Can I connect my 401(k) to Mezzi? Usually yes. Search for the plan administrator that holds the plan — Fidelity, Empower, Voya, Principal and similar — rather than your employer's name. If the first entry fails, try another entry under the same name.
Why can't I connect my TSP account? Thrift Savings Plan doesn't support a reliable connection with third-party apps, which is why it keeps asking to be repaired and then stops updating. It's an upstream limitation with no fix available today. Add TSP manually instead.
Is there a limit on how many accounts I can connect? No. Unlimited account connections are included on every tier, including the free tier.
What if my institution isn't in the list at all? Add the account manually. Manual accounts count toward your net worth and appear alongside connected accounts.
