Why Is My 401(k) Balance in Mezzi Higher Than My Plan Shows?
Last updated: October 24, 2026
If your 401(k) balance in Mezzi is much higher than your plan's website, the likely cause is that your plan holds a fund as plan-specific units, and Mezzi priced those units at the public share price of the matching fund. Your share count and your plan's balance are usually correct. Only the price per unit differs. Email help@mezzi.com and we can correct it for your account.
What you may see
A 401(k) fund that tracks a well-known public fund, such as an American Funds option, but is worth a fraction of a public share in your plan.
A Mezzi balance that is several times your plan's balance, while the number of shares or units matches your plan.
Daily moves in percent that match the public fund, even though the dollar value is off.
Why this happens
Some plans, including some run through Transamerica, hold funds in a separate account. Each unit follows the public fund one for one but is worth a fixed fraction of a public share. Your plan reports the unit price. Mezzi normally values a fund at the public price for its ticker, so a unit that is worth a fifth of a share can be priced as a whole share.
How to check your account
Open your 401(k) in Mezzi and note the number of shares or units for the fund.
Sign in to your plan and compare the units and the balance.
If the units match but the balance in Mezzi is higher, this article applies.
How to get it fixed
Email help@mezzi.com with the plan name, the fund, and the balance and unit count from your plan's website. We can apply a price adjustment to your account so it matches your plan, give or take the day's market movement.
