Why Are Some of My Transactions Missing?
Last updated: August 21, 2026
Overview
When transactions are missing from an account in Mezzi, it's almost always because your financial institution didn't transmit them — either it shares only a limited window of history, or the data didn't come through correctly on that sync. Mezzi says this plainly in the app: "Your financial institution may not have transmitted the right data. Let us know." Refresh the connection first; if the transactions still don't appear, email help@mezzi.com with the account name and the specific transactions, and we'll look at what your institution is actually returning.
⚠ What You May See
The in-app message "Your financial institution may not have transmitted the right data. Let us know."
Recent trades or deposits visible at your bank or brokerage but absent from the transactions view in Mezzi.
Transaction history that starts abruptly at a date some months or years ago, with nothing before it.
An account whose balance is correct while its transaction list is sparse or empty.
"This account never synced - refresh your connection" on an account you're sure you connected.
"Your account connection stopped syncing. Please repair the connection."
An account showing as stale in the "Needs attention" cards on your home screen.
⚙ How to Fix It
Refresh the connection. Open the account and use Refresh connection. If you refreshed recently you may see "Refresh too soon — Please wait at least 1 hour before refreshing again." — that's a rate limit, not a fault.
Repair the connection if prompted. A connection that stopped syncing won't pick up new transactions until it's re-authenticated. If the account is flagged, work through Account Showing Stale or Incorrect Data.
Check how far back the history goes. If the gap is old activity rather than recent activity, this is a history-window limit rather than a fault. How much history an institution shares varies, and there's no setting that extends it.
Check for a duplicate account. If the account appears twice and one copy is empty, the empty one is a duplicate record that never synced — not a failed connection. You don't need to reconnect anything; tell us and we'll remove it. See How to Remove Duplicate Accounts in the help center.
Tell us what's missing. Email help@mezzi.com with the account name, the date and amount of at least two transactions that should be there, and a screenshot of the same transactions at your institution. We can see exactly what your provider is sending for that account and whether the transactions were transmitted at all.
💡 Why This Happens
Institutions decide what they share. Every connection is governed by what the institution makes available, and that varies widely — some share years of transaction history, some share a few months, some transmit balances and positions reliably but transaction detail poorly. Mezzi can only display what arrives.
Some transaction types come through with less detail than others. Categories, descriptions and income detail differ by data provider, and one provider may send a generic label where another sends a specific one. That doesn't make a transaction missing, but it can make it hard to recognise in a list.
Duplicate account records. A race at connect time has, in some cases, created a second empty copy of an account. Nothing ever syncs into the duplicate, so it looks like a total transaction failure. We ran a sweep and cleaned up the pairs we found, but if you see two copies of one account, that's the likely explanation.
A degraded connection keeps serving the last snapshot. Some institutions return an error and keep the previous successful sync in place. Balances look plausible while new transactions quietly stop arriving.
Important Notes
Missing transactions affect things derived from them. Realized gains, cost basis and income figures are built from transaction history, so a gap there shows up downstream. Your balances and net worth come from position and balance data, which is transmitted separately and usually still correct.
Manually added accounts don't sync at all — you enter and edit holdings there yourself. That's expected behaviour, not a missing-transaction problem.
🗨 Still Need Help?
Email help@mezzi.com or text/call (415) 763-6997 with:
the account name in Mezzi and the institution
the date, amount and description of at least two missing transactions
a screenshot of those transactions at your institution
a screenshot of the transactions view in Mezzi for the same period
whether the account shows any connection warning
Common Questions
Is my balance wrong if transactions are missing? Usually not. Balances and positions are transmitted separately from transaction history, so an account can carry a correct total with an incomplete list.
Can I add a missing transaction myself? Not in a connected account. Manual transactions and positions are supported only in manually added accounts.
How far back does Mezzi import transactions? It depends on the institution — the window is set by them, not by Mezzi, and it differs by connection. If you need older activity preserved, send us an email and we'll try to figure out a way or you can manually enter the account.
Will reconnecting the account pull in older history? Generally no. Reconnecting re-establishes access; it doesn't widen the institution's history window, and you'd lose the account's history in Mezzi.
