How to Use Privacy Mode to Hide Your Balances

Overview

Privacy mode hides the dollar amounts in Mezzi so you can open the app on a plane, in an office, or next to anyone you'd rather not show your net worth to. Shake your phone to turn it on or off — you'll see a brief confirmation that reads "Privacy mode is on." It only changes what's on screen; nothing about your accounts or your data changes.

🧭 How to Turn Privacy Mode On or Off

  1. Open Mezzi.

  2. Shake your phone.

  3. A confirmation appears — "Privacy mode is on" — and your balances are hidden.

  4. Shake again to bring them back.

That's the whole gesture. There's nothing to configure first and nothing to undo afterward.

💡 Why This Matters

Turn it on before you open the app, not after. The point of privacy mode is that the person beside you never sees the number. Shaking once as you take your phone out is the habit worth building.

It's a screen-level shield, not a lock. Privacy mode hides figures from someone glancing over. It doesn't sign you out, doesn't require anything to reverse, and isn't a substitute for your phone's own lock screen. Nothing you do in privacy mode is destructive. Your balances, holdings and history are unchanged. Toggling it repeatedly costs you nothing.

Important Notes

If your balances vanished and you don't know why, you probably shook your phone by accident — in a bag, on a run, handing it to someone. Shake it again and they're back.

Shake-to-toggle is a phone gesture. On the web app there's no device to shake, and we haven't documented an equivalent control there yet.

Common Questions

  • Does privacy mode hide my data from Mezzi or from anyone else? No. It only hides figures on your own screen. For how your data is protected in transit and at rest, see Is My Data Secure?.

  • My balances disappeared — is my data gone? Almost certainly not. Shake your phone once and check whether they come back; an accidental shake is the usual cause.

  • Does privacy mode stay on after I close the app? Yes. If the amounts are still hidden when you reopen Mezzi, shake once to bring them back.
