Troubleshooting Fidelity Connections
Last updated: August 20, 2026
Overview
Most Fidelity problems in Mezzi are not connection failures — the account is connected and the balance is right, but something about the holdings looks wrong. If a Fidelity account has vanished from your accounts list, refresh the connection before reconnecting; if a fund is missing from Exposure X-Ray or shows no underlying holdings, that's a data limitation on Fidelity's proprietary funds and reconnecting won't change it. Email help@mezzi.com with the fund names and we'll map them.
⚠ What You May See
A Fidelity account you connected successfully is no longer in your accounts list, with no error shown.
"This account never synced - refresh your connection" on a Fidelity account.
"Your account connection stopped syncing. Please repair the connection."
"Account connection issue" on the Fidelity institution card.
A Fidelity target-date fund (a Freedom or Freedom Index fund, for example) that appears in your holdings but lands under Other in Exposure X-Ray, leaving your stock allocation understated.
A Fidelity VIP fund or other proprietary share class showing no underlying holdings at all in the X-Ray breakdown.
A 401(k) or workplace balance grouped as cash rather than as the funds you actually own.
⚙ How to Fix It
Confirm the balance first. If the Fidelity account total matches what Fidelity shows, the connection is working and only the breakdown is affected. That's the common case, and it means your net worth is correct.
If the account disappeared, refresh before you reconnect. Open the Fidelity institution and use Refresh connection. If you see "Refresh too soon" and "Please wait at least 1 hour before refreshing again," wait and try again rather than deleting anything. Accounts have come back on a refresh.
Check whether you've ended up with a duplicate. Reconnecting Fidelity a second time can leave two records for the same account, one of which never syncs. Work through How to Remove Duplicate Accounts in Mezzi — and read Removing an Institution vs. Removing a Single Account before you delete anything, because removing the institution takes every Fidelity account with it.
Repair the connection if you're asked to. Repair prompts on Fidelity are normally a credential or multi-factor refresh and complete in a minute.
For missing or empty fund detail, send us the fund list. Email help@mezzi.com with the account name as it appears in Mezzi, each fund name and its ticker or internal code, and a screenshot of the holdings screen. We map funds we can't price to comparable public securities. Turnaround is usually within a business day.
Don't delete and re-add to fix fund detail. It doesn't change how a fund is classified, and you lose the account's history in Mezzi.
💡 Why This Happens
Fidelity accounts can drop out of the list without an error. We have a confirmed case where a user connected Fidelity, the account was visible, and then it wasn't — with no duplicate connection on our side to explain it. The user reconnected and it returned. We're working this with the provider and it's still open, so if it happens to you, tell us: the diagnostic data from your account is what moves it forward.
Target-date funds don't decompose. A Fidelity target-date fund is a fund of funds. When our data provider doesn't return its underlying holdings, Exposure X-Ray has nothing to break down, so the whole position sits in Other. Your equity exposure is real — it just isn't attributed. We've fixed the specific target-date case reported to us; if yours still lands in Other, send us the fund name.
Proprietary share classes aren't covered by the data provider. Fidelity VIP funds and similar insurance or plan-only share classes return no underlying holdings from our fund-data source. This is an upstream coverage gap rather than a bug in your connection, which is why reconnecting has no effect. Proxy mapping is the workaround.
Workplace plans send less detail than brokerage accounts. A Fidelity retail brokerage account usually arrives complete. A Fidelity-administered 401(k) often arrives with internal fund codes and no public ticker, which is what produces cash-looking balances. Why Do My Holdings Show as Cash Instead of Investments? covers that path in full.
Important Notes
Fidelity is one of the institutions where Mezzi's recommended connection path is not Plaid. You don't choose the provider — Mezzi shows one recommended entry per institution — so if you see several Fidelity entries in Search thousands of institutions, pick the one that matches the site you actually log in at.
Once a fund is mapped, allocation, Exposure X-Ray, and dividend figures update on the next refresh. Past performance history isn't rewritten.
🗨 Still Need Help?
Email help@mezzi.com or text/call (415) 763-6997 with:
the Fidelity account name as it appears in Mezzi, and whether it's a brokerage, IRA, or workplace plan
what you saw and roughly when — especially if an account disappeared
a screenshot of the Mezzi holdings screen and the matching screen at Fidelity
the fund names and codes for any holdings without tickers
Common Questions
My Fidelity account vanished. Should I reconnect it? Try Refresh connection first. Reconnecting usually works too, but it can leave a duplicate record behind — and telling us before you reconnect helps us diagnose the underlying cause.
Why is my Fidelity Freedom fund not in my stock allocation? Target-date funds only break down in Exposure X-Ray when our data provider returns their underlying holdings. When it doesn't, the position sits under Other. Send us the fund name and we'll map it.
Why does a Fidelity VIP fund show nothing underneath it? Proprietary share classes like VIP funds aren't covered by our fund-data provider, so there are no underlying holdings to display. A proxy mapping is the fix.
Does connecting Fidelity to Mezzi let anyone trade my account? No. Connections are read-only. Mezzi reads balances, holdings, and transactions; it cannot place trades or move money.
