Bank of America Investment Account Showing as Cash? Connect It Through Merrill
Last updated: October 8, 2026
Overview
If you connected a Merrill or Bank of America investment account (an IRA, Roth IRA or brokerage account) by searching for Bank of America, Mezzi receives the balance but not the holdings, so the account shows as one cash amount. To see your actual holdings, add the investment account again by searching for Merrill instead. Keep your Bank of America connection for checking, savings, credit cards and loans.
⚠ What You May See
An IRA, Roth IRA or brokerage account from Bank of America showing a single cash balance
No individual stocks or funds listed for that account
⚙ How to Fix It
Leave your Bank of America connection in place. Don't remove the Bank of America institution. Removing it also removes your Bank of America checking, savings, credit card and mortgage accounts.
Go to Profile → Accounts, tap Connect a new account, then choose Brokerage or bank.
Search for Merrill and tap its name in the results.
Sign in with your Merrill or Bank of America online credentials and select only your investment accounts.
Wait for the holdings to load. This can take a few minutes, and up to 24 hours for full history.
Once the Merrill version shows your holdings, remove the old cash-only copy of that account. Remove just that one account, not the whole Bank of America institution. See removing an institution vs. a single account.
Until you remove the old copy, the account may briefly appear twice and your net worth will count it twice.
💡 Why This Happens
Merrill holds the investment accounts you see in Bank of America online banking. When they're connected through the Bank of America entry, our data provider doesn't return holdings for them, only the total. Connecting through the Merrill entry returns the full list of positions.
Important Notes
Merrill logins that use a Microsoft account to sign in aren't supported. If that's how you sign in, add the account manually instead.
Deleting a duplicate account removes that copy's history in Mezzi. Your Merrill account itself isn't affected.
