What Happens to Your Data When You Disconnect an Account?
Last updated: August 20, 2026
Overview
Disconnecting an institution in Mezzi revokes the read-only link to it and removes that institution's accounts and their holdings from your net worth. Mezzi stops receiving any further data from that institution immediately. Nothing happens at the institution itself — your money, positions and login are untouched, because Mezzi's connections are read-only and cannot move funds.
📌 What You Need to Know
The connection is revoked, not paused. Once you remove an institution, Mezzi no longer pulls balances, holdings or transactions from it. There is no dormant link left behind.
The accounts leave your net worth. The accounts from that institution stop appearing, and their value stops counting toward your totals. Your allocation, exposure and concentration views recalculate without them, so expect those figures to change.
Your history at that institution goes with it. Performance and profit-and-loss views are built from the account data Mezzi holds. When the account is removed, the views built on it go too. If there's something you want to keep a record of, capture it before you disconnect — Mezzi has no self-serve export today. See Can I Export or Download My Data?.
Nothing changes at your brokerage or bank. Mezzi is read-only and is not a custodian. Disconnecting is a change to what Mezzi can see, not a change to your account.
Reconnecting starts fresh. If you connect the same institution again later, it comes in as a new connection and syncs from scratch. It is not a restore of what you removed.
Important Notes
Disconnecting is not the same as deleting your Mezzi account. Removing one institution leaves the rest of your accounts, your settings and your profile in place. To remove everything, see How to Delete Your Mezzi Account and Data.
Don't disconnect to fix a broken sync. If an account is stale, stuck, or asking to be repaired, removing and re-adding it is usually the slower path and can leave you with a duplicate. Work through Account Showing Stale or Incorrect Data or Troubleshooting Account Connection first.
If you're removing a duplicate, there's a dedicated path for that — see How to Remove Duplicate Accounts in Mezzi. Duplicate records are usually our bug rather than something you did.

Common Questions
Does disconnecting close or cancel my account at the brokerage? No. Mezzi's access is read-only. Disconnecting only removes Mezzi's ability to see the account.
Can I reconnect the same institution later? Yes. It comes back as a new connection and syncs fresh — it won't restore the history that was removed.
Will my manually added accounts be affected? No. Manual accounts aren't tied to an institution connection, so removing a connected institution leaves them in place.
Is disconnecting enough if I want my data off Mezzi entirely? No. It removes one institution. To remove your whole account and data, use How to Delete Your Mezzi Account and Data.
